It's Global Recycling Day!

It's Global Recycling Day!

Posted by Lauren on 18th Mar 2020

Today is Global Recycling Day! The mission of Global Recycling Day, as set out by the Global Recycling Foundation, is twofold:

1. To tell world leaders that recycling is simply too important not to be a global issue, and that a common, joined up approach to recycling is urgently needed.

2. To ask people across the planet to think resource, not waste, when it comes to the goods around us – until this happens, we simply won’t award recycled goods the true value and re-purpose they deserve.

We are using today as an opportunity to raise awareness of our newly launched water filter cartridge recycling scheme.

We are excited to offer water filter cartridge recycling for all brands of filter - whether it be Brita, BWT, Everpure, 3M or any other brand. All used filters can be returned to our warehouse to be recycled, saving 100% of the cartridge from ending up in landfill!

Recycling is a key part of the circular economy, helping to protect our natural resources. Each year, recyclables save over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions and this is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030. There is no doubt recycling is on the front line in the war to save the future of our planet and humanity.

To make the recycling scheme even better, we will donate £2.50 per unit to our chosen charity, Friends of the Earth. To read more about our scheme, please read our blog post. We are hoping to partner with as many of our customers as possible to save as many of the UK's water filter cartridges from landfill as possible!

Water filter recycling isn't the only thing that we are working on though; we are always looking at our EcoSolutions policies and our Environmental Commitment is constantly evolving as we make changes within the business. Over the last year, we have made significant changes to make our operations greener; we have switched to 100% recycled paper in our office and a paperless picking system in our warehouse. More recently, we have partnered with a company in Brighton to recycle 100% of our pallet wrap. Click here to read our full Environmental Commitment.

We hope that today, Global Recycling Day, other businesses will share the work that they are doing to increase recycling within their operations. We want to celebrate all of the Recycling Heroes and recognise the people, places and activities that showcase what an important role recycling plays in contributing to an environmentally stable planet and a greener future which will benefit all.
